“Quiet Retreat” is meaningful to me because my son and I worked together to create the composition: he wore his favorite hoodie and without prompting, settled into this very characteristic and languid pose. This painting embodies family memories because he grew up with this chair, and the framed engraving by San Francisco artist Beth Van Hoesen.
