When George looked out the barn's north door, the swallows were diving for gnats in the grey air. He leaned on the door frame and just watched the world in front of him, and I have no idea what he was thinking, but the stillness in him was certainly guileless. I looked at George from the south door and I was struck by the moment, it electrified the air the way David Lindley playing through a Dumble amplifier does. Everything, the dry oat grasses, the warped boards of the barn floor, the remnant peeled paint, the long darkness of the barn interior and George in the far quiet light told me this is an exemplary moment, past, present, and future are harmony.
