I used an old family photograph to paint this picture. The young women with their many babies are lined up in front of the old hospital off of Highway 152 in Los Banos, CA. The picture was probably taken in 1945 at the end of WWII. My mother-in-law is on the right with my ex-husband in her arms. At the time this photo was taken, my father-in-law was still in the Marines on a ship somewhere in the Pacific. The first time I saw this photo was at my mother-in-law's funeral. There is a lot of meaning for me in this painting as I too was raised in Los Banos.
