When first arriving to the United States, the artists for this piece was not accustomed to people with blonde hair and blue eyes. He had emigrated from El Salvador to Santa Monica, California at a young age and these physical characteristics were new to him. The artists found himself taking on the identity of his fellow classmates subconsciously. Notice in this piece how the eyebrows remain brown yet the hair up top is spiked and blonde. Also notable is the painted pink skin complexion, not fully covering the face’s outline, acting like a mask. This along with the blue eyes and blue lips shows he took on the identity of his counterparts.
