Isolated during Covid, I first photographed all my personal artwork that I had in my possession. After that I was inspired to make new art. I was drawn to explore oil painting, and I considered subject matter. I wanted to draw from life and I was interested in portraits. There was no model except myself and my husband. I explored both. My self-portraits did not seek to picture me in the best light, I sought out wrinkles and crevices of my face as a topography that would explain the planes of my face. Friends told me I did not look that old and I would only look that way years from now. I did not understand their comments, as I saw myself deeply in those moments and sought to express me.
