Lawrence Ferlinghetti was my studio mate at Hunters Point Shipyard. Like Italian Renaissance profile portraits , this painting includes landscape references with City Lights Bookstore on the right and Columbus Tower and the Transamerica Pyramid on the left. Lawrence could be thought of as the Pope (Il Papa) of North Beach.
