My husband's retinas detached one after the other, within the span of two weeks. Thus began a four-month ophthalmic odyssey revolving around a dozen doctor appointments, two nasty procedures, two surgeries and the terror of temporary blindness. I accompanied him to his appointments and sketched him waiting for the doctors. Thanks to UCSF surgeons, his vision is fully restored.
