Why and how did you choose to represent this person? A friend and fellow artist is mourning the loss of a tree outside her window, a tree that provided beauty and comfort to her through the first year of the pandemic, when health concerns kept her housebound.
How did making the picture help you to better understand this person or your relationship to them? The tree and the figures in this watercolor painting are symbolic, not true representations of either. The painting was a way to express her sorrow and my empathy while adding a little hope through the yellow background and the owl, her favorite animal.
