Why and how did you choose to represent this person? How did making the picture help you to better understand this person or your relationship to them?
I've long been an admirer of Masha Gessen, a Russian-American journalist, social justice activist and author. During a time I was painting an acrylic portrait a day, I loosely painted them. I have this work in my personal collection and every time I pass it, I think about the importance of their contributions to the world.
