Loosely based off of Gustav Courbet’s The Wounded Man (1844-1854), The Wounded Millennial transfers the notion of the eternal sufferer into modern times. As if autobiographical, Gustav Courbet’s plentiful self-portrait paintings depicted a larger story of the artist’s life while romanticizing the artist as sufferer. Here, the modern-day equivalent is the average millennial, a victim and sufferer of her addiction to the digital gadgets that provide a false sense of social progress and happiness.
