Dennis, the subject of this painting, was an artist and renowned storyteller. He was telling a story when I took a photo and asked if I could paint it. Three best friends, all seasoned artists, surrounded him. They answered my question, while sharing instances about his ability to attract crowds anxious to hear him recount his latest allegory. I quickly became one of them. “Just a little bit more,” he was saying as he advanced toward the end of the tale. I was drawn to his face, intensity, and gestures. No body moved. I had a feeling there was something special about this particular story and this particular time. It was. He passed away six months later. I had already started the portrait.
