This is a self-portrait detailing my experience with mental illness whilst being a proud gay man in San Francisco. The main figure is surrounded by three angels/demons who feature in all my pieces detailing my history with schizophrenia.. The action of the story is based around finding love in the back room at a seedy gay bar in the South of Market neighborhood. I transformed the environment into an absurd and colorful scene and the fellow patrons into astronauts which i use to represent their nocturnal activities.
My artwork takes the underbelly of gay life, hidden and unseen by the masses and morphs the imagery with a surrealistic code making it palatable to the general public.
