Two young kids in the pool on a summer day. Snapshots taken to cement memories.

Later, desiring to re-engage I begin to draw that day from that photograph.
Jessica, ponytail held tight with that green bobble reaches out to Sandy, bobbing his head barely above the water. Tippytoed tall in his diapered bottom he reaches out to his sister for reassurance and adventure.

I didn’t notice their interaction when I took the photo. But as I carefully craft time in pastels to recreate the moment, I sense their connection to each other…protective, happy.
Now, 40 years later that drawing remains a presence in my life. The children reaching out to each other and to me.
