Looking past the figure at the lighting and interaction of the landscape viewed through the paned window I felt compelled to paint the picture…life-sized, my presence implied.
I love the challenge of “getting it right” so that any viewer experiences what I did looking at the scene. Reflections, parallel lines twisting and converging, landscape…then the person at the bottom. But she is interested in something other than my view- my composition. She works on a puzzle.
As I paint her she becomes the most important element of the painting to me. My friend, with a life of her own. Indifferent to her position on a page.
