This painting is part of my exploration of my relationship with the "inner child". It is a meditation on self-love and compassion and vulnerability. The figures were derived from a black and white xerox I made from a library book that had a section about young boys learning how to take care of babies in a classroom. At the time I had been first learning about the inner child and was looking for images that expressed how I was feeling about that phenomenon. The setting of the image was inspired by a place I used to hike in the Oakland hills.
