In creating "Sissy, Not Mummy", I chose to represent my sister in all of her smoking glory by transforming her custom-made radiation mask used during her throat cancer treatments into a decorated, spiritualized, celebrated and memorialized 3D portrait/bust. In creating the piece, I came to see my sister as a powerful warrior princess, a spirit goddess, and a very strong woman who battled and survived cancer, before ultimately returning to smoking's warm embrace.
