Táhirh, is a portrait of a poet, theologian and activist from a series based on women who have been erased from history. One of my students who is Persian posed for the painting. While modeling for the portrait and working on a class project, I learned about her father and uncle’s story of leaving Iran during the cultural revolution. Her artwork wove letters, calligraphy, photos and Persian symbols into a personal tapestry.
