2019

This is a painting of my father-in-law. We were on our vacation in Normandy when I captured this image of him resting after our long drive from the Netherlands. I am always fascinated by the kindness his face projects and the lines crisscrossing his face. He has been my favorite subject to sketch long before I decided to paint him. It was pure coincidence when I took this picture. He seemed at peace while dozing off with the perfect light peering through the window. The entire setting felt romantic and warm especially with the red Ikea couch.
