This is a self-portrait from a recently discovered 1958 photo--an era that glamorized women and cowboys. I guess I wanted it all at age five! In painting this picture I revisited the arc of my life from those early fantasies to today, and feel grateful to the feminist movement of the 1970s which enabled my dreams. I still like pretty dresses, but no longer accessorize with weapons. But, hey, Lauren Boebert, I was first!
