I painted this piece as an expression of my close relationship with my granddaughter Hana. I usually paint her and people looking at me or at least facing me. This time I felt it was important to be looking out at the world. We are inside together, having gone into the garden to gather lemons to prepare a delicious something. We are looking out at the garden which is our playground and a place of constant beauty and joy. It’s particularly meaningful after spending so much time at home inside and outside social distancing and, eventually, celebrating togetherness.
