This is a painting I made of my husband, the artist Enrique Chagoya. This painting was created as part of a group exhibition that featured portraits of people who immigrated to the United States. Painting this detailed image of Enrique's face allowed me to pay closer attention to someone I see more often than any other person. I feel like this painting captures the way that he looks back at me.
