2018

In 2018, our art group met every Thursday to paint real people, not professional models at a senior center. Next to us, was a billiard room where week after week, half dozen guys had a fun, loud time, while we sat silently painting. I was annoyed by the commotion. One day, one of the noisier fellows came over and volunteered to model. After two hours staring at him, I saw his kindness, patience, self-confidence. But who knows? Maybe I read him all wrong. I painted him like that though, over a rejected still life that included a saucepan; it’s funny to me since one could make a lot of noise banging on a saucepan. Now it all makes sense.
