I chose to represent my father as he appears in a photo that he likes to use for work engagements. Whenever I look at the original photo my first reaction is to giggle because I imagine him practicing the straight face for the camera. Now that I've painted this work based on it, I feel like I now see how he appears to others in the original image. His stern look reminds me of serious conversations we've had, which reminds me of what a great father he is.

Note: I never got around to painting his tie.
