I watched my friend's partner choose to cease his life and starve himself to death. He was an atomic vet, having witnessed over a dozen atomic bomb blasts in the Pacific as a 17 year old sailor. He had a variety of radiation related chronic conditions, and finally had had enough.
It took 60 days without food for his spirit-essence-consciousness to let go and finally exit his physical form.
Drawing him was a way for me to honor his courage and conviction and the beauty and delicacy of the body he left behind. There is something very holy about sitting with the body of “someone-no-longer” who has just passed.
I drew my father after his passing and it was a wonderful communion with “him” too
