I saw these local women dancing at an outdoor concert in the small town where I lived at that time. Although I only knew them casually, I felt an affinity for them. They both had a freedom and flamboyance that I admired. Everyone was dancing, adults of all ages and children, but these women were in a special category, in comparison to them everyone else was standing still. The very old woman wandered onto the dance floor to watch them in delight. I painted one of the dancing women twice, because she was in fact dancing with herself.
