This painting is of a jazz singer I heard in Napa . I was prompted to paint him because of the moodiness of the setting and silkiness of the voice. I chose to paint in a monochromatic color scheme to reinforce those feelings. I feel I better understand people who sing for a living as a performer who must give their whole heart and soul to their song as does a painter gives their heart and soul to a painting.
