The seed of this self-portrait was planted as I began to ask myself serious questions about what I held sacred – dismantling much of who I assumed myself to be. These figures appeared in a burned burn, large low moon in the background, spaciously dancing their own rhythms. The medium was photo collage, the piece was small.
Playing in a new medium to explore the ‘gifts of the shadow” – layered laser cut 300# watercolor paper with stitching, no color - the burned barn piece called. I re-created it larger, the women still inside the barn. They woke me from deep sleep demanding space, contact, freedom. The next morning, I drew them larger – scales, feathers and blossoms appearing as they held
