I’d had the idea for this piece, “Ghost Dance”, for a while. The man in the photo is my friend Owen Walker. I’ve known Owen for years through our mutual involvement in the building trades. At one point we were working together remodeling some offices in Oakland. The offices had nice open, empty and well-lit rooms. I thought they would be a good location to shoot photos for this. I told Owen my idea for the piece and asked him if he’d model for me, he said yes. He informed me he’s a trained modern dancer. That was news to me. I couldn’t have been happier with his poses. Sometimes it’s nice to learn new things about friends.
I shot the background on another job site in Oakland.
