I have always admired Ruth Bader Gindsburg’s principles and spirit. I also admired her spunk. I loved the fact that she wore a lace collar that accentuated her female-ness. Being a quilt maker, I wanted to portray her with elements of traditional and modern quilting as well as a feeling that although she has passed away , her spirit and her vibrant energy persists.
In the making of this portrait I came to believe, as Ruth said, that one must fight for what we believe in but to do so in a way that encourages others to join us. She tirelessly worked to promote the rights of women. I am inspired, in my own way, to do the same.
