I have only recently started taking my artwork seriously. My first art show left me feeling adrift at sea – uncertain of who I was as an artist and where I wanted to be. I needed some space to think. This self-portrait was a way to take the time and find myself while experimenting with Rembrandt lighting and composition. After quite a bit of soul-searching (hence, the title “The Search”), I have concluded that I will continue being true to myself and do what makes me happy. To be anything else would be disingenuous and wouldn’t make me happy; and life is simply too short to be anything but happy. Lesson learned: be yourself and the rest will follow.
