After seeing the Alice Neel show in NY , I was inspired to paint all of my grandchildren as babies. I was lucky that I could help with childcare for each of them while teaching art part time. Ellie had such a quiet sweetness and happy disposition. I have painted her, and all of my 4 grandchildren many, many times- from life and from photos- but not as babes, until I saw the Alice Neel show at the Met. It made me feel so validated , that I too enjoy painting “people “ -it’s ALL I choose to paint-because I feel a close, emotional connection and challenge that never gets old. People are most compelling to me, as is the paint itself. Together they give attention to all that matters.
