I chose to paint my maternal grandmother. I knew her well and spent a lot of time with her as a child. She had a hard but rich life. She died 13 years ago and I wish she was still in my life especially now as I am becoming a middle-aged woman. After the past two very difficult years I admire her strength and resiliency even more. As I was painting her I was having many "conversations" with her in my head and enjoyed spending this time with her.
