This drawing is a portrait of myself, and my fiance Michael, partner and muse, which I started in 2020. When the world, as we knew it, changed dramatically, it affected our thoughts, and behaviors, in ways that we couldn’t have imagined. Every task seemed an impossible hurtle; appointments were cancelled indefinitely, and ordinary events were halted. Humor, and magical thinking, offered relief, as way to deal with unfortunate occurrences, and as a way to express them through art. Like many, I have experienced a sense of disconnect, of strangeness, and of feeling “out of sorts”, that is best expressed though the contorted form. Working from someone I love provided a grounding experience.
