I chose to represent my maternal grandmother, everything in the painting represents something that makes me remember her in one way or another. the colors I chose where part of her home, the fern in the background reminds me of her love of fern plants. The portrait comes from a photo of her on my 3rd birthday before she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She was a breast cancer survivor, and I always saw her as a strong woman to look up to and she was like a mother to me. For me to paint her was a way of honoring her memory and show how much she meant to me.
