As my stylus moved and the lights changed, something unexpected emerged. Was this the nose of my Jewish father? Or was it a memory bleeding through from the Fayum mummies, when Rome occupied Egypt? My portrait--with a fine strong tribal nose. Midlife, I'd been shot in a mugging, shot in the face. I recovered my face. And I believe I can say that I'm ever more comfortable with the changes life puts us through; so I'm good with calling this portrait "Myself as a Man."
