I have done portraits and self-portraits for decades, even though they are not the work for which I am best known. In the past couple of years, I have found myself doing many portraits though. One was to remember a dear friend who passed away from cancer in 2020. I have also done a number of portraits of my own children, in part as a means of connection and knowing. Many of the images for these portraits are taken from social media imagery or from other video sources. This painting is of my son, who is a musician and song writer in Nashville. It is drawn from a capture of a video of him playing for me. I find that my portraits capture a truth not apparent in the source material.
