Inspired by a photo in the New York times, this is my representation of one of the 200 girls kidnapped from school by Boko Haram in 2014. Her look is so haunting....yes, she was a survivor, but it is clear what deep sadness she still carries inside of her. It spoke to me of the sadness I carry, having lost my 21 year old daughter to cancer several years ago. And also of all the pain all women carry in this world, where the horrors continue in the Ukraine and in our own country with the recent and continuing passage of anti-women laws. The visage is timeless and evocative.
