This portrait the model is a ‘behind the scenes’ snapshot taken a few minutes before shooting a larger narrative tableaux that features other models with him. I chose to capture him on his own, appearing to be deep in thought, almost brooding about something. I worked with this model for a year before this was taken, and subsequently another year before he moved on to other things. I suppose I learnt how fleeting our facial expressions can be and how much more lies in what we map onto them than in what the person him/herself is thinking/feeling.
