This is a portrait of my friend, Penny, but it's really a portrait of Penny and her son, Greg. Penny came to California after her son had a tragic motorcycle accident that left him with a severed spinal column. The palm tree was planted for Greg, so he could view it from his bed. Greg lived for twenty years as a paraplegic, with Penny caring for him. When he passed, her grief was palpable. The tree is a reminder of Greg's spirit.
