All too often we go through our lives on auto pilot, without really seeing the people we come into casual contact with. In my People in my Neighborhood series, I asked strangers if I could take their photo in their place of work so I could paint them. It was big ask, and I was always so grateful when someone agreed! I would paint them standing out boldly from their busy environments by force of their distinct personalities and their direct gaze, one that truly saw that they were being seen.
