This is my Nana who was an Irish immigrant that came to America in 1921 at the age of 21. She was a very hard working woman who worked most of her life as household help for the wealthy. I made this painting as an homage to her and the sacrifices she made to build a life here in America. I had always felt a strong connection with my Nana while I was growing up. I made this painting many years after she had passed away and throughout the process of bringing her image to life, I felt as if she was right there with me, living inside me.
