This woman stayed with me in a flat in the Mission District when my roommates sublet their portion while they were on a band tour in Europe. Caerage, her stage name, worked as a dancer at the Mitchell Brothers in the Tenderloin. She was using the money she made there to pay for college tuition.
I think back fondly on a day or two we spent taking photographs and shooting a 16mm film south of Market Street. This portrait is one of those photographs. In the process of taking the photographs and filming her while walking through deserted industrial landscapes, I discovered that she was funny with a great sense of humor, kind, savvy and expressive.
