A friend gave me a wallet size black and white photo of her mother as a young woman from the 40's and asked me to paint a portrait as a remembrance. I fell in love with her as I tried to bring color and life to her image. All I knew of her was that she had blue eyes, a peaches and cream complexion, reddish brown hair, loved gardening, and was from Alabama. I tried to make it personal by setting her against a camellia tree, the state flower of Alabama.
