This is a photo of my young half sister. She had agreed to pose for me for part of my "Women with Red Umbrella" series below the ocean cliffs. I captured two or three evocative photos, but it was a very windy day, and it didn't take too long before the umbrella turned inside out in the wind. As she sat there on the boulders at the ocean's edge, I asked her to look out to sea. There is something so captivating to me about this image; gazing out to the horizon with look to the future, perhaps with a sense of longing or maybe a feeling of sadness. I'm not sure if this photo helps me understand my sister in another way, or if it expresses something about myself and a feeling we perhaps share.
