Layla was my first girlfriend I met in San Francisco. We took the same class in City College.
She was from Morocco. We spoke different languages but shared the optimism and humor. I learned about Moroccan culture to paint Layla’s portrait so I could include some traditional design elements in the background. It helped me to understand better her stories about her family and her life there.
It was exciting to learn about her country and vibrant culture.
