I was on a houseboat in Kerala in southern India when the captain stopped at the island where his family lived. As I walked along the bank of the river, this little girl was sitting on her front porch. She was excited to meet someone from America and wanted to show me the beautiful henna design she'd put on her hand! I've never forgotten her.
