I created this painting because in the last two years I found I had a lot of time and inclination to think about family and the relationships between siblings. The image is based on an old snapshot I found which was taken the last summer all three of us spent it together. My eldest brother was heading off to high-school in the Fall and adventures apart from his younger brother and sister. In retrospect, I remember I felt a sense of him moving away as a sibling, a small desertion as he headed towards his new life separate from the family. In time I came to understand, it was a journey he had to make on his own.
