I started this painting as an assignment during my class with Noah Buchanan at CSM. Titania was a model that I had previously drawn and painted. Having Titania posing online due to the pandemic was a challenging endeavor as I normally paint models in person. This situation enabled me to spend many hours virtually with the model and get a better feel for her. The relationship between an artist and a model is not only professional, it is also human. Besides being a challenging physical effort, modeling is also the generous gift of exposing one’s body and soul. Titania has an expressive and vibrant personality and I tried to capture what part of her she shared in this pose.
