When the war in Ukraine began, it was difficult to put attention to other subjects. I had been interested in painting a scene with people on a train platform, having interest in groupings of people on the move in ambiguous scenes but with specific imagery. I compiled different images of groups of people and changed the scale relation of the people to the train making the train slightly larger than life or the people slightly smaller. While painting and composing the image, I thought about the different reasons and situations in which people are on the move.- traveling for pleasure and out of choice vs. traveling out of necessity and for survival.
